Values
We are kindness first- everything else second kind of studio. We genuinely like working together and we genuinely love building this community and seeing where this takes us. It's been almost a decade of building community through outdoor yoga (and the occasional non-yoga event or adventure) and still, we choose this, we choose each other, and we choose you. So even on life's rainiest days, we promise to always lend a hand, crack a joke, or share a kind word.
Motivation
For a lot of years it was free yoga- the biggest barrier we wanted to address was to be financially accessible. Now in addition to free yoga on Fridays we offer a broader range of inclusive experiences we want to be at and only charge what we would be comfortable paying. We try to tackle 1-3 barriers to inclusivity, accessibility, and diversity in our programming each year.

Want to come play outside? This year, we're celebrating the timeless beauty of Vancouver, from the forests of Stanley Park to the rooftops of East Van. We are so excited to be back with you for the 2021 season and will continue to add classes, events, and experiences as the season progresses.

In 2019 our friends Vivian and Dane asked if the MC team wanted to take over their local line of vibrant eco-friendly yoga mats: Warrior Mats. We love these mats so it was an easy choice, but we want to add to what they had built- we wanted to keep diverting yoga mat waste, add new gear types for a diversity of adventures, and keep fostering a rental economy. So after some humbling trial and error and pulling all our products out of retail mega-corporations, we took over a long-closed local apparel manufacturer and got to work rethinking the future of this company.
Things are still a work in progress but we are excited to introduce you to Foreij. We've kept the great mats Dane and Vivian were known for, but expanded our name to allow for a diverse collection of gear, all while doubling down on our commitment to the environment and localised production. Through Foreij we are able to focus on the upcycling of second hand mats, and the distribution of our eco friendly products.
Foreij is now the home of all production, retail, mat rentals, and event merch for Mat Collective, so we can focus on what matters most: our unique outdoor experiences, and the communities they foster.
